Why Study Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at NJIT?
It's simple: opportunity. NJIT's mechanical and industrial engineering program not only gives you a solid academic foundation, but offers many wonderful opportunities to expand your knowledge outside of the classroom theory.

We have student organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) that annually participate in design contests. This is about as close as you come to putting what you learn to the test.

What Other Opportunities Exist?

In addition to the design competitions, the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering offers some great resume builders. Both undergraduate and graduate students have extensive opportunities to take part in research.

We also have quite an extensive and hi-tech manufacturing facility that utilizes traditional manufacturing methods as well as newer technologies that combine computer-aided design (CAD) with computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Those who work in this facility learn these skills which are valuable in the job market. We also have high powered workstations running some of the most advanced CAD packages such as Pro-Engineer and I-DEAS, the same programs used by the top companies such as Ford Motor Company.

What this all means to you is that if you take advantage of all there is available, from the CAD packages to the research experience, to manufacturing and design experience, that you'll have a resume that will put you in the best position to get a great job.

Take Another Step, Graduate Studies

As an undergraduate you want to begin considering graduate activities such as pursuing a masters degree. As an undergraduate you may be eligible to participate in the BS/MS program. If your GPA is good enough and if approved, you will automatically be accepted for graduate school at NJIT. You will also be allowed to take 6 credits of graduate courses that count not only toward your undergraduate degree but also toward your master's degree.

In Conclusion ...

We hope that you have gained more insight into the mechanical engineering profession. As you can see, studying mechanical engineering here at NJIT can be the first step toward a great career . Should you have any questions at all about our program, please feel free to write, email, or call us.
